What punctuation do you use after for example?

You use a comma after "for example" when it introduces an example within a sentence.

Example:

"There are many different types of fruits, for example, apples, oranges, and bananas."

However, if "for example" starts a new sentence, it is followed by a period.

Example:

"There are many different types of fruits. For example, apples, oranges, and bananas are popular choices."
