How we form the past tense of regular verbs?

To form the past tense of regular verbs in English, we add -ed to the base form of the verb.

Here are the rules:

* If the verb ends in a consonant, simply add "-ed":

* walk -> walked

* jump -> jumped

* play -> played

* If the verb ends in a vowel followed by a consonant, double the consonant and add "-ed":

* stop -> stopped

* plan -> planned

* shop -> shopped

* If the verb ends in -e, simply add "-d":

* like -> liked

* smile -> smiled

* love -> loved

Examples:

* I walked to the store.

* She jumped over the fence.

* They played soccer in the park.

* He stopped the car.

* We planned a trip to the beach.

* The dog loved to play fetch.

Exceptions:

* Some verbs are irregular and don't follow these rules. They have unique past tense forms. For example:

* go -> went

* see -> saw

* eat -> ate

* have -> had
