What is the meaning of jibes?

"Jibes" can have two main meanings:

1. Nautical: A jibe is a maneuver in sailing where the stern of the boat swings through the wind, causing the boom to swing across the boat. It's the opposite of a tack.

2. Colloquial: A jibe is a sarcastic or ironic remark, often intended to be hurtful. It's similar to a taunt or a dig.

Here are some examples:

* Nautical: "The sailor expertly executed a jibe, bringing the boat around to a new course."

* Colloquial: "Her jibe about my new haircut was really mean."

You can usually tell which meaning is intended by the context. If the sentence is talking about sailing, it's likely referring to the nautical maneuver. If the sentence is talking about a conversation, it's likely referring to the sarcastic remark.
