What do you say if someone asks como estas?

If someone asks you "¿Cómo estás?" (pronounced "koh-moh eh-stahs"), they're asking you "How are you?" in Spanish. Here are a few ways you can respond:

Formal:

* Bien, gracias. ¿Y usted? (B'yen grah-thee-as. Ee oo-sted?) - "Good, thank you. And you?"

* Estoy bien, gracias. ¿Y tú? (Eh-stoy b'yen grah-thee-as. Ee too?) - "I'm good, thank you. And you?"

Informal:

* Bien, ¿y tú? (B'yen, ee too?) - "Good, and you?"

* Estoy bien, ¿y tú? (Eh-stoy b'yen, ee too?) - "I'm good, and you?"

* Más o menos. (Mahs oh meh-nos) - "So-so."

* Genial. (Heh-nee-al) - "Great."

You can also be more specific:

* Estoy un poco cansado/a. (Eh-stoy oon poh-koh kan-sah-doh/ah) - "I'm a little tired."

* Estoy muy feliz. (Eh-stoy moo-ee feh-lees) - "I'm very happy."

* Estoy un poco triste. (Eh-stoy oon poh-koh tree-steh) - "I'm a little sad."

It's always polite to ask back: "¿Y tú?" or "¿Y usted?" to show that you're interested in their well-being too.
