How many letters were in cuneiform writing?

Cuneiform writing didn't use letters in the same way we do today. Instead, it used syllables and logograms.

* Syllables: These represent individual sounds or syllables, like "ba," "da," or "ma."

* Logograms: These represent entire words, like "king," "house," or "sun."

The exact number of cuneiform signs varied depending on the language and period, but estimates suggest there were around 600 to 800 different signs used in total.

Keep in mind that this is not the same as the number of letters in an alphabet. While we have 26 letters in the English alphabet, cuneiform used hundreds of signs to represent sounds and words.
