What countries use German as an official language?

German is an official language in the following countries:

* Germany (obviously!)

* Austria

* Switzerland (along with French, Italian, and Romansh)

* Liechtenstein

* Luxembourg (along with French)

* Belgium (along with French, Dutch, and others)

* Italy (in the autonomous region of South Tyrol)

It's also spoken by significant minorities in other countries like:

* France

* Poland

* Czech Republic

* Romania

* Hungary

* Russia (especially in the Volga German communities)

* Namibia

* United States (especially in Pennsylvania)

However, it's only officially recognized as a minority language in some of these places.
