What is the principal language of Belgium?

Belgium doesn't have just one principal language. It's a country with three official languages:

* Dutch (also known as Flemish) is the most spoken language, used by about 59% of the population, primarily in the northern region of Flanders.

* French is spoken by around 40% of the population, mainly in the southern region of Wallonia.

* German is spoken by about 1% of the population, mostly in the eastern region of the country bordering Germany.

While Dutch is the language used in the majority of the country, Belgium is officially recognized as a multilingual country.
