How many Asian languages are there?

It's impossible to give a definitive number of Asian languages because:

* Defining "Asian" is complex: Asia is a vast continent with diverse cultures and histories. Defining what constitutes an "Asian language" can be subjective, based on geographic, linguistic, or cultural criteria.

* Classifying languages is difficult: Even within a region, languages can be closely related or very distinct. Some languages are considered dialects of others, while others are clearly separate.

* Ongoing research and discovery: New languages are still being identified and documented, making any count inherently fluid.

However, some estimations exist:

* Ethnologue, a comprehensive language database, lists over 2,300 languages spoken in Asia.

* Other sources suggest there are over 3,000 languages in Asia, including lesser-known and unrecorded languages.

It's important to note that these numbers are estimates and can vary depending on the criteria used for classification.
