What is the sign for word in American Sign Language?

The sign for "word" in American Sign Language (ASL) is made by:

1. Starting with your dominant hand in a "W" handshape (thumb and pinky extended, other fingers closed).

2. Moving your hand slightly forward and then back in a "wiggle" motion.

3. Your non-dominant hand can be open and flat, held palm-up, near your chest, or can be used to sign "speak" (a "Y" handshape moving in and out of your mouth) simultaneously.

This "wiggle" motion represents the way words are spoken.

Important note: ASL signs can vary slightly depending on the signer's individual style and regional differences.
