What is the comparative degree of far?

The comparative degree of "far" is farther or further.

* Farther is used for physical distance: "He walked farther than I did."

* Further is used for abstract distance, such as time, degree, or extent: "We need to discuss this further."

However, further can sometimes be used for physical distance as well, especially in British English.
