When did the Maori land wars start?

The Maori Land Wars, also known as the New Zealand Wars, are generally considered to have begun in 1845 with the Battle of the Wairau.

However, tensions between Māori and European settlers had been escalating for several years before this. The conflict continued for over two decades, with various phases and battles, and finally ended in 1872.
